Armenia’s ruling party announces strategic goal to establish Fourth Republic
Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party has declared the establishment of the Fourth Republic of Armenia as a key strategic objective.
The declaration was adopted on September 20 during the party’s 7th congress, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
The party outlined a multi-step plan to achieve this goal. It intends to seek an extension of its governing mandate at the next parliamentary elections in 2026. Following a successful election outcome, Civil Contract plans to initiate a nationwide referendum to adopt a new constitution for Armenia.
The party emphasised that its actions would be guided by the principles set out in the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration and the inviolability of Armenia’s internationally recognised territory of 29,743 square kilometers, including both internal and external borders.
Civil Contract also signaled its intention to intensify efforts toward Armenia’s European Union membership while maintaining a balanced foreign policy and supporting regional cooperation.
The declaration also provides for the implementation of a mandate to establish peace and good-neighbourly relations with neighbouring countries, as well as the institutional enshrinement of these principles based on respect for territorial integrity, sovereignty, and the inviolability of internationally recognised borders.
The declaration was adopted unanimously.
