Armenia's ruling Civil Contract party has submitted the necessary documents to nominate Nikol Pashinyan for the post of prime minister.

“Civil Contract, as the political force that formed the parliamentary majority in the National Assembly, and in accordance with Article 149 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, has submitted the required package of documents to the president of the republic regarding the nomination of Nikol Pashinyan for the post of prime minister in order to ensure compliance with the constitutional appointment procedure,” the party said in a statement.

Earlier on August 2, the first session of Armenia's 9th-convocation National Assembly convened under the chairmanship of Knyaz Hasanov.

In line with constitutional procedure, the Armenian government submitted its resignation ahead of the formation of a new cabinet.
