Armenia says Trump Route will operate under EAEU rules
Armenia will apply the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) transit regulations to the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project, Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan said, reaffirming that the country's obligations as an EAEU member remain in force.
Speaking to reporters in parliament, Safaryan said Armenia's membership in the EAEU means the bloc's transit rules apply throughout its territory, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
"At the moment, Armenia is a member of the EAEU, and the EAEU's transit regulations apply on its territory," he said.
Asked whether this also meant the EAEU's rules would govern the TRIPP project, Safaryan responded: "Yes."
The deputy foreign minister declined to comment on the possibility of Russia joining the initiative, saying it would be premature to speculate.
"At the moment, TRIPP is being implemented by Armenia and the United States. An agreement has been signed, and it is now in the implementation stage. I would not like to speculate or make any statements about the future," he said.
Safaryan also said the issue of Russia's potential participation has not been raised during bilateral contacts between Yerevan and Moscow.
"The issue is not on the bilateral agenda and has not been discussed during contacts between Yerevan and Moscow," he said.
The TRIPP initiative was launched following a trilateral meeting in Washington on August 8, 2025, where US President Donald Trump, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration on a peace settlement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The agreement also provided for the establishment of a transport corridor linking mainland Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan, a project that was subsequently named the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP).
