Armenia seeks to get weapons from US

An Armenian politician has said that the country is unlikely to get arms from the United States as similar decisions are taken in Washington.

The head of the Free Citizen organisation, Hovsep Khurshudyan, made the remarks in a recent interview with the Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.

"At the moment, Armenia is unlikely to be able to get weapons from the United States, but there are many other alternatives," he said.

In his opinion, the main thing in this matter is the decision of the United States to provide Armenia with weapons, since such decisions are made in the United States.

"When the United States decides that Armenia should have weapons, they will find a way. The most important thing is that they are the ones who make such decisions for many countries. Even, let's say, they do not decide, but 'advise' countries, and their advice is always very effective and leads to specific actions," he stressed.

He also noted that for arming Armenia, an optional but desirable circumstance would be withdrawal from the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, which would allow the country to receive better weapons in a shorter time.

According to Khurshudyan, the United States has been unprecedentedly active in Armenia lately: they have not shown such activity before, not only in Armenia but also in the region as a whole.
