Armenia sees surge in illegal border crossings, report reveals
The Armenian General Prosecutor’s Office has announced in its report for 2024 that a significant rise in illegal border crossings was observed.
The report reveals that the number of such cases has more than doubled compared to the previous year, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
In 2024, 160 incidents of illegal border crossings were recorded, a sharp increase from 78 cases in 2023. This marks a 105.1 per cent rise, amounting to 82 additional violations. While the number of border crossing violations surged, the report also highlighted a decline in crimes related to the organisation of illegal migration.
The cases involving the facilitation of illegal migration fell from 24 in 2023 to 15 in 2024, indicating a decrease in this type of criminal activity.
