Armenia target former presidents in state property embezzlement case

Armenian authorities have named former president Serzh Sargsyan and Robert Kocharyan in a criminal case involving the alleged embezzlement of state property.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said charges have been brought against them on August 24, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

It also opened a criminal case against the late former Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan, who served during Kocharyan’s presidency, Kocharyan’s eldest son, Sedrak Kocharyan, former Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan and five other individuals.

Robert Kocharyan was charged with abuse of office, money laundering and accepting a particularly large bribe.

Serzh Sargsyan is currently at the Anti-Corruption Committee. Upon entering the building, Sargsyan said he did not yet know anything about the case.
