Armenia targets former security chief in asset seizure lawsuit
Armenia's Prosecutor General's Office has filed a lawsuit seeking the confiscation of assets belonging to Aram Zakaryan, the former head of the Main Directorate of State Security of the Police.
The Anti-Corruption Court has accepted the case for review. Prosecutors are demanding the seizure of two properties in the capital Yerevan, Zakaryan’s share in a private company, and 14.2 million drams ($37,000) in cash, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
Zakaryan was summoned to the Prosecutor General's Office in June as part of the ongoing investigation. He is also facing separate criminal charges of abuse of office, with investigators alleging that he directed a subordinate to systematically collect funds from businesses and transfer a portion to him personally.
Zakaryan served in his post from 2016 to 2018 under then-President Serzh Sargsyan.
