Armenia to explore small modular reactor technology, Pashinyan says
Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia, announced that the country has decided to pursue small modular reactor (SMR) technology, signaling a step toward modernizing its nuclear energy sector.
He made the remarks during his opening address at the Second Nuclear Energy Summit, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Pashinyan highlighted that the decision was driven by “growing demand that is driving leading companies to develop safer and more flexible solutions with shorter construction timelines and scalable capacity, which can better meet the needs of national energy systems.”
He added, “At present, we are carefully studying the technologies and evaluating proposals from international partners. The selection process is guided by reliability, long-term sustainability, and our commitment to the highest standards of nuclear safety, security, and non-proliferation.”
