Armenia to finalise new constitution by March, justice minister says
Armenia plans to complete the drafting of its new Constitution by March, Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan announced at the latest meeting of the Council on Constitutional Reforms.
The session, chaired by Galyan, centred on proposed amendments concerning the Prosecutor’s Office and investigative bodies, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“I would like to once again confirm the commitment undertaken by the Ministry of Justice — namely, the preparation of the text and the timeline for its development. This commitment implies that the new text of the Constitution must be ready in March,” Galyan said.
Azerbaijan has repeatedly called on Armenia to revise its Constitution as part of the peace process. Baku specifically demands the removal of references implying territorial claims over Azerbaijani lands, including parts of the 1990 Declaration of Independence cited in Armenia’s constitutional preamble.
