Kazakhstan extradites fraud suspect from Türkiye over alleged social media scam VIDEO
A suspect wanted in a fraud case has been deported from Türkiye to Kazakhstan following coordination through Interpol, authorities said.
According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspect was detained in the Turkish city of Samsun and transferred to Kazakhstan on June 19 after a request from the National Central Bureau of Interpol at the ministry, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.
Kazakh and diplomatic officials, including representatives of the ministry in Türkiye and Kazakhstan’s embassy, assisted in organising the extradition.
Investigators allege that between September and December 2024, the suspect used an Instagram account to defraud two residents of the western city of Atyrau, obtaining more than 3 million tenge (about $6,400).
After arriving in Kazakhstan, the man was detained and placed in a temporary detention facility under the Almaty Police Department.
