Pakistan interior minister travels to Tehran for talks with senior Iranian officials
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is en route to Tehran, where he will hold talks with senior Iranian officials on Saturday (June 20), according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
Earlier, the Saudi-owned broadcaster Al Arabiya reported that Naqvi would meet senior Iranian officials to “monitor the progress” of ongoing discussions between Tehran and Washington.
He previously met Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni during his last visit on June 7.
The visit comes amid reports from Axios that US envoy Steve Witkoff and Araghchi may meet in Switzerland after renewed diplomatic momentum following a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar expressed support for Araghchi ahead of the next phase of US–Iran talks, as Pakistan continues to act as a mediator.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding outlining steps towards broader regional de-escalation.
