Iranian media confirms FM Araghchi to head to Switzerland for US talks
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is traveling to Switzerland this evening, on June 20, accompanied by Pakistan’s Minister of the Interior, according to Iranian media reports, as diplomatic efforts involving the United States continue to take shape.
A spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the delegation will travel to Switzerland to continue negotiations with the United States and to discuss Washington’s implementation of previous commitments. Tehran, according to the spokesperson, also aims to assess how seriously the U.S. is prepared to adhere to earlier agreements.
The development follows earlier reporting by Axios, which cited a source familiar with the matter saying Araghchi was planning to travel to Switzerland on June 20. However, at the time, the source noted that the plans were not final and could still change.
Additionally, U.S. official also told Axios that White House envoy Steve Witkoff was en route to Switzerland, noting that Jared Kushner is already in the country.
