Armenia to receive first Akash-1S missile systems from India
08 August 2024 20:50
Armenia is set to receive its first Akash-1S surface-to-air missile systems by the end of this year.
Yerevan has ordered 15 units of these air defense systems, with the total deal valued at $720 million, Caliber.Az reports citing the foreign media.
This order marks Armenia as the first international buyer of the Indian-made Akash-1S systems.
The Akash-1S systems have a combination of simultaneous active target acquisition and guidance, providing robust protection against aerial threats such as fighter jets, guided missiles, and drones. Developed in 1983 and introduced into service 30 years later, the Akash-1S can engage aerial targets at ranges between 4 and 25 kilometres.
