Armenia to receive Russian LNG by rail through Azerbaijan, ministry says
Armenia is discussing the possibility of transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia to Armenia by rail through Azerbaijani territory, said Lilit Shaboyan, the press secretary of Armenia’s Ministry of Economy.
“Since we import gas from two main countries — Iran and Russia — there have been certain problems with Iran due to well-known circumstances, and the issues with Russia are related to the Verkhny Lars border crossing. But this problem will be resolved very soon, because LNG imports to Armenia will begin by rail. Russian LNG will soon be delivered to Armenia through the territory of Azerbaijan. The option of importing Russian LNG to Armenia by rail is being discussed,” she said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
When asked when this would be possible, the press secretary replied: “Soon,” without specifying a date.
In recent days, the price of LNG in Armenia has nearly doubled.
