Armenia turns prison into military unit
Plans to transfer the territory of the Kosh prison were announced at a January 11 meeting of the Armenian government to the Ministry of Defense to create a new training unit for the needs of the armed forces.
The decision was made in light of the non-use of the prison's territory and buildings since January 2022, Caliber.Az reports.
"Based on the event of closing the penitentiary, the justification of this decision is due to the insufficient use of this territory, which made the closure of the institution a natural step within the framework of optimizing state resources.
The transfer of the territory of 'Kosh' to the Ministry of Defense is intended to ensure the effective use of this piece of land in the interest of national security. The establishment of the training unit represents an important stage in improving the training of the country's armed forces," the statement said.
