Armenia welcomes Türkiye’s move to lift trade restrictions

13 May 2026 11:52

Armenia has welcomed Türkiye’s decision to lift restrictions on bilateral trade, describing it as a meaningful step forward in the ongoing normalisation of relations between the two countries.

According to Caliber.Az, citing Armenian media, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan said the move reflects progress in rebuilding ties between Yerevan and Ankara.

“This decision has significant importance in terms of expanding trade between the two countries and ties between business communities, stimulating economic interconnectedness in the region, as well as ensuring peace and prosperity,” she said.

Badalyan added that lifting trade restrictions marks an important stage toward full normalisation and could pave the way for further steps, including reopening the Armenia–Türkiye border and establishing formal diplomatic relations.
