Armenian activist accuses Catholicos Garegin II of Russian intelligence links
Armenian public activist Roman Bagdasaryan has launched a strong criticism against Catholicos Garegin II, accusing him of collaborating with Russian security services for many years.
According to a post on his Facebook page, Bagdasaryan claimed: “Do you know the most disgusting thing about this man? He knows the people hate him, yet for 25 years, under orders from the Russian FSB, he has continued to play the role of Catholicos,” Caliber.Az reports.
“He is a monster, not a Catholicos!”
Bagdasaryan ended his message by directly addressing Garegin II, asking: “If the entire nation hates you, will you still continue to be the Catholicos of all Armenians?”
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had again demanded the resignation of Catholicos Garegin II, calling for a renewal of the Armenian Apostolic Church leadership.
In a Facebook post, he proposed forming a Coordination Group composed of devoted church followers—both clergy and laity—who meet specific faith-based criteria to organise new elections for the Catholicosate.
Pashinyan will personally select the first ten members, who will then decide on the group’s future structure and processes. He urged believers to remain steadfast despite opposition and to respond with faith and patience.
