Armenian ambassador discusses Washington agreements with US envoy
Armenia’s Ambassador to the United States, Narek Mkrtchyan, met with US special envoy Steve Witkoff to discuss regional developments and the implementation of the agreements reached in Washington on August 8.
The meeting focused on progress in the region and ongoing efforts to uphold the commitments outlined in the Washington Accords, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
The Armenian Embassy in Washington said Witkoff reaffirmed the United States’ consistent support for a peaceful agenda in the region. Mkrtchyan expressed his gratitude for Witkoff’s efforts to promote stability and peace.
At the Washington summit on August 8, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration setting out a seven-point framework that underscores mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, the renunciation of force, and measures to promote regional integration.
A central element of the framework is the TRIPP, commonly known as the Zangezur Corridor. This strategically important transit route through southern Armenia is designed to link Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave, facilitating economic development and enhancing regional cooperation.
In addition, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan initialled a draft Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations in the presence of Donald Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan, representing a significant step forward in the pursuit of lasting peace and integration across the South Caucasus.
