Armenian analyst warns of Azerbaijan's growing strategic importance Amid Middle East tensions
In light of escalating tensions in the Middle East, Armenian political analyst Suren Surenyants has highlighted Azerbaijan's increasing strategic significance for the United States.
Following Israel's military operations in Lebanon, which aim to counter Hezbollah and are seen as a direct challenge to Iran, Surenyants warns of far-reaching consequences that may impact regional dynamics, Caliber.Az reports.
In a statement, Surenyants expressed concern about the implications of these developments, noting that the proximity of the conflict may not be fully grasped by many in Armenia. He emphasized that in international relations, military might often dictates outcomes, leaving weaker nations, such as Armenia, facing a precarious dilemma regarding their statehood and territorial integrity.
Surenyants explained that while Israel's invasion targets Hezbollah, the broader goal is to diminish Iran's influence in the region. Should Iran's power wane as a result, it could bolster Azerbaijan's position as a strategic ally for both the US and Israel. Conversely, if Iran becomes embroiled in a significant conflict, it could further enhance Azerbaijan's geopolitical relevance.
The political scientist concluded with a call for wisdom and resilience, expressing hope for the Republic of Armenia as it navigates these complex challenges.
