Armenian army loses dozens of soldiers in non-combat conditions Statistics by human rights activists
At least 50 servicemen died in non-combat situations in the Armenian Armed Forces in 2022.
The statement came from the Vanadzor office of the Helsinki Civic Assembly, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Armenian media.
According to the official version, among the causes of death are:
— health problems (17 cases);
— Traffic accident (17);
— suicide (6);
— murder (6 cases, 2 of them intentional, 1 — a consequence of the violation of the rules of handling weapons, 1 — under unspecified circumstances, 2 — as a result of the violation of the rules of combat service);
— accident — 2 (fire burn, electric shock, drowning);
— violation of the rules of handling weapons, ammunition, and dangerous substances — 1 case;
— mine detonation — 1.
Another 14 servicemen (various incidents) were killed as a result of the truce violation.
According to official data, from September 13 to 15, 221 Armenian servicemen were killed as a result of the September escalation, and three are still missing.
Apart from the September fighting, the human rights organization reported 64 deaths in the Armenian army last year, 50 of which occurred in non—combat situations and 14 as a result of ceasefire violations.
Official reports were distributed in connection with 30 of the 64 cases (47 per cent) and data on four more were distributed by the media in three cases (5 per cent). The Armenian Defence Ministry and the Prosecutor General's Office confirmed the media reports, but no official report on these incidents was received. There was no information about 27 cases (42 per cent).
In 2021, 76 servicemen died, 54 in non-combat conditions and 19 as a result of ceasefire violations; the number of cases classified as suicide was 9 (6 - in 2022), and murders were 11 (6 - in 2022).
