Armenian authorities detain colonel backing Russian-born oligarch

Armenian authorities have detained Colonel Edik Maloyan, the former deputy commander of one of the armed formations that took part in the 2020 44-day war.

Searches were conducted at his home in the Armenian city of Talin before law enforcement officers took him into custody.

According to subsequent reports, the arrest may be linked to his political views. Maloyan is described as a supporter of Russian-born oligarch and leader of the Strong Armenia party, Samvel Karapetyan.
