Armenian consul in Austria detained on suspicion of spying for Azerbaijan

Approximately two months ago, Armenian consul Ashken Alexanyan was detained in Austria upon returning to Armenia on suspicion of espionage for Azerbaijan, Yerevan-based Hraparak reported. 

According to the publication cited by Caliber.Az, “Alexanyan was detained at the airport upon her return to Yerevan. Documents were discovered in her possession that raised suspicions of spying for Azerbaijan.”

Following her arrest, the Armenian National Security Service (NSS) reportedly conducted a search of the Foreign Ministry building in Yerevan.

Sources told Hraparak that, to avoid a potential scandal, all information related to Alexanyan—including records of her official appointment—was removed from online sources.
