Armenian ex-president faces judge in Yerevan’s Anti-Corruption Court

16 January 2026 11:10

The Anti-Corruption Court in Yerevan is currently holding a hearing in the case involving former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and several other high-ranking former officials, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.

The defendants in the case include Kocharyan, former Defence Minister Seyran Ohanyan, former Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation Yuri Khachaturov, and former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan. The proceedings are being overseen by Judge Sarkis Petrosyan.

The session opened with the court examining the reason for the absence of attorney Karen Mezhlumyan at the previous hearing. The court also reviewed the schedule of hearings already assigned to Mezhlumyan in other cases to determine how these commitments might be taken into account when setting future dates for this trial.

Judge Petrosyan stated that the court would consider these scheduling constraints where possible, but underscored that the court retains the authority to set hearing dates at its own discretion.
