Armenian ex-president refuses deal with authorities, aide says Detention will not break him

18 September 2026 13:40

Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan will not reach a deal with the authorities, and his detention will not break him, Bagram Mikoyan, head of former president’s office, said.

Speaking to journalists outside the courthouse, Mikoyan noted that Kocharyan’s current detention marks the fourth time the former president has been taken into custody.

Kocharyan, who served as Armenia’s second president, had previously spent months in pretrial detention and does not regard his imprisonment as a particular tragedy, according to Mikoyan.

“Tragic things are actually happening to the country,” Mikoyan said, referring to Kocharyan’s view of the situation.
