Armenian Foreign Ministry hands over note of protest to Russia

28 February 2024 21:23

Armenian Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan has said that the Foreign Ministry sent a note of protest to its Russian colleagues.

The note of protest was sent due to a violation of the legislation regulating the broadcasting of the Russian channels in Armenia, Caliber.Az reports citing Sputnik Armenia.

While speaking during the parliamentary session, Hayrapetyan noted that two months after discussions between competent officials of the two countries, a violation was again noticed.

He added that the offensive statements against the Armenian leadership have often been heard on the Russian TV channels.

The minister noted that the Ministry of High-Tech Industry received a letter from the Television and Radio Commission documenting these facts.

“The Armenian Foreign Ministry has sent a note of protest to our Russian colleagues today. The issue is sensitive, and everything must be done to prevent politicisation. There is no sense to see political subtext here,” the official said.

He sent a letter to his Russian colleague with a proposal to hold consultations in Yerevan or Moscow.

Hayrapetyan said that perhaps, the interstate agreement with Russia on cooperation in mass communications should be amended.
