03 August 2026 11:16

Ruben Rubinyan, a candidate for speaker of Armenia's National Assembly, has said he learned Turkish and ate kebabs during his visit to Türkey.

Rubinyan made the remarks with irony, adding: "If you're interested, I can also tell you that while in Türkiye I liked eating Adana kebab and Iskender kebab—they're very delicious," Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

Ruben Rubinyan lived in Türkiye for about five months in 2016–2017. The purpose of his stay was to conduct research and participate in the Experience Exchange between Armenia and Türkiye program.

He addressed issues concerning relations wth Türkiye, noting that his country is ready to open the Armenian-Turkish border to third-country citizens and holders of diplomatic passports.

According to him, several agreements have already been implemented, while others are still awaiting implementation.

He noted that one of the agreements that has been implemented is the restoration of direct flights between Yerevan and Istanbul.

The MP also noted that direct trade between Armenia and Türkiye also became possible.
