Armenian National Security Service uncovers plot to overthrow government
The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia has revealed a criminal group plotting to seize power in the country.
According to the Armenian Investigative Committee, around 30 searches were conducted as part of active operations, leading to evidence that seven individuals, along with unidentified accomplices, were preparing for a violent takeover of the government, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The group had recruited several Armenian citizens for a paid three-month training program in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, specifically at the "Arbat" base, with the intention of training them in weapon handling for combat duty. However, it was later discovered that the real goal of the organizers was not border protection but a coup to overthrow the Armenian government.
Some of the recruited individuals withdrew from the plot and returned to Armenia.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the seven individuals involved; three have been arrested, and four are currently wanted. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to identify additional members of the group.
