Armenian oligarch Karapetyan transferred to Armavir Penitentiary
Samvel Karapetyan, a prominent Armenian businessman and oligarch, has been transferred to the Armavir penal institution, according to multiple reports.
The development was reported and later confirmed by Karapetyan’s lawyer, Ruben Akopyan, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
Responding to inquiries regarding the businessman’s location, Akopyan stated, “I can confirm this, as we held a confidential meeting with Karapetyan at the facility overnight.”
As a reminder, the Court of First Instance in Yerevan has ordered a two-month detention for Russian-Armenian billionaire Samvel Karapetyan.
He was detained on June 17 following a police raid on his residence and charged with inciting the seizure of power, after publicly criticising the government and supporting the Armenian Apostolic Church.
Karapetyan faces allegations under Part 2 of Article 422 of the Armenian Criminal Code, including calls for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order and rejection of sovereignty. His lawyer has condemned the detention as unlawful.
