Armenian opposition leader says he plans to continue business projects from detention

21 July 2026 11:27

Armenian businessman and "Prosperous Armenia" party leader Gagik Tsarukyan has said he intends to continue working on projects in Armenia while being held in a remand centre.

In a statement, Tsarukyan said he had never taken anything from anyone or encroached on another person’s property during his life, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

“I have built, restored or revived enterprises that were in a state of disrepair,” the statement said.

Tsarukyan also listed projects he said he had undertaken in Armenia, including factories, hotels, residential buildings, sports complexes, roads, the Olympic Complex and educational institutions.

He added that construction was currently underway on a statue of Christ, which he described as “the likes of which will be unrivalled anywhere in the world”.
