Armenian opposition MP warns of Russia's reaction to EU mission deployment in Armenia
The Russian Foreign Ministry reacted in a rather voluminous text to the decision to deploy an EU civilian mission in Armenia, noting that this could only lead to a geopolitical confrontation in the region and exacerbate existing contradictions.
The remarks came from Tigran Abrahamyan, secretary of the opposition faction "I have the honour" at the Armenian parliament, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Armenian media.
“Moreover, the Russian side emphasized that 'the key factor for stability and security in the region in the foreseeable future remains the Russian peacekeeping contingent deployed based on the statement of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia dated November 9, 2020, as well as Russian border guards serving at the borders Armenia', warning that 'they will react to the behaviour of EU observers, taking into account the development of the situation “on the ground',”
The authorities of Armenia managed to fully concentrate the deep confrontation between Russia and the West, putting the country under a great threat of turning into a 'testing ground',” Abrahamyan concluded.
