Armenian lawmaker declares church leader true villain
Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Ruben Rubinyan delivered a scathing critique of Catholicos Garegin II, declaring that his statements and actions are devoid of significance.
Rubinyan accused Garegin II of abandoning Armenia in favor of another country and aligning himself with “plunderers” rather than the Armenian people, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“At the moment when Ktrich Nersisyan (Garegin II-ed.) chose another country over Armenia, and sided with the plunderers instead of the Armenian people, he became a villain—a true villain,” Rubinyan said.
He added that because of these actions, Garegin II’s statements and conduct “carry no significance.” Rubinyan further argued that if Garegin II does not repent and continues what he described as violent behavior, he should not simply be granted an honorary retirement.
“He should be completely expelled from the Armenian Apostolic Church and imprisoned as a traitor to the faith,” Rubinyan said.
