Armenian parliamentary speaker signals possible meeting with Azerbaijan in Istanbul
Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan has said he may meet with the Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament in the framework of a conference in Istanbul.
Simonyan indicated that discussions between the two sides on expanding direct communication would continue, explaining that any further contacts would take place independently of international mediation frameworks and would be guided solely by the decisions of the parties involved, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
Earlier, on December 8 Azerbaijan urged Armenia to take part in the forthcoming session of the regional 3+3 format, proposing that the meeting be held initially on Azerbaijani soil, followed by a subsequent session in Armenia.
In turn, the Armenian Foreign Ministry stated that discussions on the matter are still ongoing.
The “3+3” regional platform involves Azerbaijan, Armenia, Türkiye, Iran, Russia, and Georgia, although Tbilisi has so far declined to participate.
