Armenian people hold rally demanding prime minister's resignation

23 August 2022 19:21

Another rally is being held on Republic Square in Yerevan demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The event was organized by the "Independence" Movement and is led by former Ambassador to Poland, ex-Governor of Vayots Dzor and former Chief of Staff of the Constitutional Court Edgar Ghazaryan. The rally is timed to coincide with the Day of the adoption of the declaration of independence of Armenia, celebrated on August 23, Sputnik-Armenia reports.

In a conversation with reporters, he said that he would seek a meeting with the prime minister in order to convey to him a demand for resignation. And even if Nikol Pashinyan is not at the workplace at the moment, i.e. in the government building, this does not mean that he cannot come, Ghazaryan said.

He also recalled that $2 million was spent from the budget for the purchase of armored official vehicles for Pashinyan. In his opinion, Pashinyan should not have problems with movement, therefore, he can and should come to the square, to the protesters.

Earlier, Ghazaryan also stated that through a rally struggle, he and his supporters intend to achieve the resignation of the head of government by September 21 - Independence Day.
