Armenian PM accuses church leaders of reviving war rhetoric
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has accused the leadership of the Armenian Church of attempting to revive revanchist movements.
Speaking at a government briefing, Pashinyan voiced concern over the mention of “Artsakh” during church liturgies, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“Recently, I attended a liturgy and heard the term ‘Republic of Artsakh.’ What does that mean? It is a call for war, nothing more. Ktrich Nersisyan (Catholicos Garegin II) and other clergymen have taken on the role of leaders of the war party,” Pashinyan said.
He added that when the Prime Minister declares the Karabakh movement over, no one has the authority to continue it.
“There cannot be multiple foreign policy directions in the country,” he emphasized.
