Armenian PM calls for realistic ambitions based on national weight
Armenia must formulate its ambitions in line with its actual political and economic weight, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
He made remarks at a security forum, noting that the country has problems with understanding and communicating with the world, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
“We are building decent relations with our main international partners, but on the other hand, we must not forget who they are and who we are,” Pashinyan said. He added that this understanding requires looking at GDP per capita.
“Yes, let’s go and increase it, let’s achieve it and surpass it—no one is stopping anyone, and no one is forbidding it. But this is not done with empty words. It is done through education and work. Let’s work,” PM stated.
As an example, Pashinyan pointed to Singapore, noting that the country—whose territory is about two-thirds the size of Lake Sevan—has a GDP per capita ten times higher than Armenia’s, despite having a population of five million or more compared with Armenia’s roughly three million.
