Armenian PM: Catholicos’ brother recruited by KGB during Soviet era

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has alleged that the brother of the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church was recruited by the Soviet KGB.

Speaking at a press briefing on November 6, Pashinyan said the information about Ezras Nersisyan — the brother of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II — was “a fact” dating back to Soviet times, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.

“Since the Soviet era, he [Ezras Nersisyan] was recruited by the KGB, and that is a fact,” Pashinyan said.

“By the way, we do not expect any explanations on these facts either from Ktrich Nersisyan [Garegin II] or from his brother.”
