Armenian PM: Peace agreement with Azerbaijan to facilitate strategic transport routes
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed confidence that regional transport links will be operational in the near future, underlining their potential impact on Armenia’s economic development.
According to Caliber.Az, citing Armenian media, Pashinyan made the remarks during his address at the forum Mining Industry of Armenia.
“I am confident that the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the expected opening of regional infrastructure and transport links, which will definitely take place in the near future, will contribute to the creation of a more favourable environment for the industry,” Pashinyan said.
The statement comes in the wake of significant diplomatic developments at the Washington summit hosted by US President Donald Trump. At the summit, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan signed a joint declaration outlining a seven-point framework emphasizing respect for sovereignty, recognition of territorial integrity, and the renunciation of force.
During the same summit, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia initialled a draft Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations in the presence of Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan.
A central component of the framework is the so-called Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), widely referred to as the Zangezur Corridor. This strategically and economically significant transit route, running through southern Armenia, is intended to connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave, enhancing regional connectivity and cooperation.
