Armenian PM’s allies clash with opposition in council meeting VIDEO
Deputies from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s ruling party have clashed with opposition members during a session of the Yerevan Council of Elders.
The confrontation erupted after representatives of the Mother Armenia faction accused the ruling Civil Contract party of vote theft in the recent parliamentary elections, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Some members of Mother Armenia reportedly ran in the elections on the Prosperous Armenia list.
Tensions escalated during the debate when Yerevan Deputy Mayor and Civil Contract member Armen Pambukhchyan demanded that Gevorg Stepanyan of the opposition Mother Armenia faction leave the hall.
He also reminded the opposition figure that the bloc’s leader, Andranik Tevanyan, has been accused of high treason.
Stepanyan responded by stating that there is no court ruling confirming Pambukhchyan’s claims.
After a brief exchange of heated words and shouting, one of the ruling party members threw a bottle toward Manuk Sukiasyan, the head of the Mother Armenia faction, after which a physical fight broke out.
