Armenian PM’s associate becomes mayor of Yerevan

The Yerevan Council of Elders has elected a candidate from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract Party Tigran Avinyan mayor of Yerevan.

The voting was held at the first meeting of the Yerevan Council of Elders, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.

Some 37 out of 65 members of the Council of Elders participated in the meeting, which ensured a quorum. Only one candidate - representative of the Civil Contract Party Tigran Avinyan was nominated.

Around 32 members of the Council of Elders voted for his candidacy, while five members voted against. There were no abstentions and invalid ballots.
