Armenian PM warns of forces seeking to undermine peace with Azerbaijan

10 September 2025 18:16

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has sounded a cautionary note regarding the fragile peace process with Azerbaijan, asserting that certain internal and external forces are actively attempting to sabotage the newly established détente.

Pashinyan acknowledged that while peace has been formally established, it remains vulnerable to disruption, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“Yes, peace has been established. But there are forces that are trying to destroy and disrupt the peace, both in Armenia itself — referring to opposition elements — and in neighbouring and distant foreign countries,” the Prime Minister stated.

On August 8, following a trilateral meeting in Washington with US President Donald Trump, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration underscoring their mutual commitment to peace. The declaration, comprising seven points, articulates the intention of both Baku and Yerevan to pursue peaceful relations. It further acknowledges that the parties have initialed a previously negotiated treaty text aimed at establishing peace and restoring diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and Armenia, with both sides pledging to expedite its ratification.
