Armenian posecutors seek extension of house arrest for oligarch Karapetyan
Armenian prosecutors have requested a three-month extension of house arrest for Samvel Karapetyan, Russian-Armenian businessman facing multiple criminal charges.
The request was announced during proceedings at Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Court. The defence team had earlier submitted a motion seeking to change Karapetyan’s preventive measure, arguing against the continuation of house arrest, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The court has not yet issued a ruling on either request.
“The court has not yet reached a decision; proceedings are currently adjourned,” an official statement said.
The first hearing in the case began on April 15. Karapetyan is accused of tax evasion, money laundering, large-scale embezzlement, and making public calls for the seizure of power—charges he denies.
Two additional defendants are also implicated in the case, which is being overseen by Judge Vaha Dolmazyan. Proceedings are expected to continue in the coming weeks as the court considers the motions and examines evidence.
