Armenian Prime Minister breaks silence on US, Israeli strikes in Iran
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the US and Israeli strikes on Iran for the first time, responding to criticism from opposition MP Agnessa Hamoyan in parliament.
Hamoyan questioned Pashinyan’s conduct on the first day of the military operation against Armenia’s southern neighbor, highlighting a video showing the premier campaigning for his party and eating pastries on a bus. She implied that his behavior reflected a lack of seriousness in responding to regional developments, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Pashinyan defended his actions, emphasizing that Armenia’s state institutions function independently and efficiently, regardless of the prime minister’s personal whereabouts or activities. He added that the situation in Iran did not come as a surprise to Armenian authorities, noting that the issues had been developing over decades.
“We regret the events in and around Iran. We held a National Security Council meeting the day before the incidents began, and another meeting afterward. An interagency working group has been operating within the Council for a long time. By your logic, should we also cancel parliamentary sessions?” Pashinyan said, speaking emotionally.
