Armenian prime minister condemns burning of Turkish flag in Yerevan

23 April 2026 23:44

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has condemned the burning of the Turkish flag during a torchlight procession in Yerevan held to mark the anniversary of the so-called “Armenian genocide”.

The incident took place during the commemorative march in the Armenian capital, where participants set fire to a Turkish flag, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

Pashinyan described the act as a “provocative and tension-generating step”. According to his press secretary Nazeli Baghdasaryan, the prime minister considers the act “irresponsible and unacceptable”.

“The burning of the flag of an internationally recognised state, especially a neighbouring country, cannot be assessed otherwise by the head of state,” Baghdasaryan stated.
