Armenian prosecution detains officer in connection to fatal barrack fire
An officer has been detained in connection to a fire that broke out in a military barrack that killed 15 servicemen in January.
As Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media outlets, the press service of the Armenian Prosecutor General's office published this information.
It states, that the prosecutor has taken the decision to initiate criminal proceedings on January 30 against Major M.S, the Head of the municipal service and the head of the fire security and rescuing service of the military site.
He has been detained on January 31 as the investigation has gathered sufficient evidence pointing to the fact that M.S had been responsible for organizing the fire safety measurements, keeping the firefighters on duty, materials for fire extinguishing and training staff on fire safety rules, installing fire extinguishers in all barracks and has acted unscrupulous and negligent while in his position and commander (department head).
As reported by the prosecutor, he did not fulfill his duties, including engineering support with fire extinguishing materials in the military plant, which led to the death of the servicemen.
Caliber.Az recalls, that a fire broke out on January 19 in a temporary barrack for an Armenian engineering company working for the army. As a result, 15 servicemen have been killed with 3 more injured.
