Armenian pundit detained over alleged calls to overthrow government
Armenian pundit Alen Gevondyan has been detained on charges of publicly calling for the overthrow of the government.
According to Armenia’s Investigative Committee, Gevondyan and another individual identified as T.V. (Tigran Vardanyan, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia Council) allegedly used social media platforms to issue public calls for the seizure of power and the overthrow of the constitutional order, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
Authorities have opened two criminal proceedings in connection with the case.
According to the Investigative Committee, Vardanyan has been placed on a wanted list and is subject to a preventive arrest measure, while Gevondyan has been detained.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released regarding potential charges or court proceedings.
