Armenian pundit excludes EU’s influence on Azerbaijan

Armenian political scientist Suren Surenyants has said that EU cannot influence Azerbaijan.

"The EU as an economic entity with political resources in this region cannot ensure the security of not only Armenia, but also in general of any country," Surenyants said in an interview with Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.

"An eloquent proof of this is that even High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, who is still a rational figure given his recent assessment of the Israeli-Palestinian war, made such a confession. He said that the West's political hegemony is ending.

In general, unlike Armen Grigoryan (Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia - ed.), who remained under the propaganda dose, I believe that one of the real victims of the Russian-Ukrainian war or the second main victim, except Ukraine, is the EU, which has lost its institutional unity, remember the cases of Hungary, Slovakia, i.e. the behavior of their elite. In Germany and France there is a shameful shift in the mood of the electorate. Globalization, the values that united many EU countries, are becoming generally unpopular.

Secondly, we see that in many cases the EU is unable or unwilling to influence Azerbaijan. As far as Armenia specifically is concerned, the EU in the post-war phase can be associated with one thing: a constant call for Armenia to lower the bar on certain issues. In addition, three EU representatives stated that the EU is not a military-political organization and cannot promise Armenia anything in the area of conducting any military exercises or training of personnel. That is, we should not put much hope on the EU, especially we do not know what will happen to the EU as a whole from two points of view. On the one hand, we do not know how the Russian-Ukrainian war will affect the world order and the EU in particular. On the other hand, we don't know what kind of efficiency the EU will form after Trump becomes president in the US. That is, the presence of such illusions in all cases, I think, is following the propaganda narratives of the liberal circles of the West," the political scientist noted.
