Turkish leader hails Zangezur corridor as symbol of unity, economic growth
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reaffirmed Ankara’s strong support for the development of the Zangezur corridor, describing it as a transformative project for regional connectivity and economic growth.
His remarks were made during a conversation with journalists aboard his return flight from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
“Türkiye views this project as extremely significant from a geopolitical standpoint. The Zangezur corridor will connect our region to others and revitalize trade. Our main expectation is for this route to become a symbol of unity rather than a source of discord,” Erdoğan stated.
Framing the corridor as a catalyst for economic cooperation, the Turkish leader noted that its benefits will extend beyond Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Türkiye, potentially strengthening ties and infrastructure across the wider region. He emphasized that regional prosperity would be enhanced through expanded trade and transportation links.
Erdoğan expressed optimism that remaining political and logistical challenges surrounding the project could be addressed through dialogue among neighboring countries. He stressed the importance of regional ownership and diplomatic engagement to ensure the corridor’s success.
“Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev places great importance on the Zangezur corridor. He wants to launch the project as soon as possible and use this route for the benefit not only of Azerbaijan but the entire region,” Erdoğan added.
The Zangezur corridor remains a focal point of post-conflict regional planning in the South Caucasus following the 2020 Karabakh war. While the initiative is supported by Azerbaijan and Türkiye, its implementation faces resistance from Armenia.
