Tokayev ratifies treaty to expand allied ties with Kyrgyzstan
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has ratified a treaty aimed at deepening allied relations with Kyrgyzstan, the presidential press service reported on July 21.
The treaty formalises commitments to strengthen bilateral cooperation across a range of areas, including regular high-level political dialogue and closer alignment on foreign policy issues, Caliber.Az reports per Kazakh media.
The agreement also outlines enhanced collaboration in the defence sector and joint efforts to combat transnational threats such as terrorism, extremism, cybercrime, and drug trafficking.
Beyond security, the treaty expands cooperation in key civilian sectors such as education, culture, science, logistics, and water and energy management. As part of the economic agenda, the two countries plan to launch a major transport and logistics hub at the Karasu–Ak Tilek border crossing by 2026.
Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan also aim to boost bilateral trade, setting a target to increase their mutual trade turnover to $3 billion by 2030.
