Armenian ruling party declines to back opposition's anti-Azerbaijani statement
Armenia's ruling party has refused to support an anti-Azerbaijani statement adopted by the country's opposition.
The Armenian parliament's standing committee for foreign relations convened a meeting on December 2, which discussed a proposal by [former Armenian President Robert] Kocharyan's opposition faction Armenia to respond to the Azerbaijani parliament's November 8 statement, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.
The representative of Kocharyan's faction, Andranik Tevanyan, presented a draft statement, after which the ruling Civil Contract faction MP, Eduard Aghajanyan, said that they had discussed, but there were differences on the content, and the parliament would abstain from voting on the draft at the parliamentary session.
The agenda for the Armenian parliament's extraordinary session on December 2 includes a statement regarding the document adopted by Azerbaijani MPs on the 44-day war's Victory Day.
A response worked out by the Armenia faction in parliament reiterates that Baku "distorts the essence of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue".
