Armenian school head embezzles millions by registering ghost employees
The school principal in the village of Yeraskhoun, in Armenia’s Armavir region, has been formally accused of embezzling approximately 3 million Armenian drams (around $8,000), a statement from Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee said.
An ongoing investigation revealed that the school head, who held the position between 2023 and 2025, fraudulently registered several acquaintances as school staff members, assigning them roles such as repairman, watchman, and cleaner. These individuals never reported for work, yet the director illicitly collected their salaries by forging official documents, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Charges have been filed not only against the director but also against three other individuals implicated in the scheme.
During the preliminary inquiry, the accused reimbursed the embezzled funds. The case file has since been forwarded to the court for further legal proceedings.
